A simple maintenance routine that adds years to exterior signage

Most signs do not fail — they are neglected into failure. A short seasonal routine prevents nearly all of it.

Exterior signage lives in UV, rain, freeze-thaw cycles and wind loading. None of that is dramatic on any given day, and all of it compounds.

Twice a year, wash faces with a mild detergent and soft brush, never a pressure washer against seams. Check that drainage weep holes are clear and that gaskets remain sealed.

Inspect illumination at night, not during the day. A single dead module is invisible at noon and glaring at nine in the evening.

Photograph the sign each inspection. A visual record makes fading, staining and mounting movement obvious long before they become a repair bill.
